Roger Woodall, Bournemouth Sevens

Bournemouth 7s has become the World’s Largest Sport & Music Festival and celebrated its 11th Anniversary in 2018! Still privately owned and directed by Fleur and Roger Woodall, the festival now attracts over 30,000 party people and over 400 sports teams to Bournemouth over the late May Bank Holiday weekend. Roger is a rugby man, having played for Wasps Academy, Loughborough University and Leicester Tigers in the late 1990s.

Along with Stephanie Essex Roger also saw a huge gap in the Rugby & Netball market to create a colourful, vibrant and head-turning sportswear brand - thus Viper 10 was born. In August 2018 Viper 10 partnered with Stevensons an independent and family-owned business formed in 1925.

Andrew Quinlan, Orchard Pig

After starting out on a farm in Norwich, Andrew Quinlan always dreamed of farming pigs, but his life took a slight diversion when his mother told him to join the Royal Marines. So he did…

After leaving the Marines, Andrew worked for Mars pet foods and pursued his hobby of cider-making on the side.

Eventually, the demand for his cider and apple juice grew to the point where it was worth quitting the day job and giving it a go.

Andrew then grew his business from a small orchard in West Bradley to a multi-million pound operation which was eventually bought in 2017 by the C&C group (Magners).

It’s like a Fitbit for business that motivates you to reach your business goals. At Statzy Lucy co-hosts monthly Stats Sprints in the Vital Statistics group, and is obsessed with helping small business owners work out their vital and vanity statistics to do more of what works, and less of what doesn’t.

Jonathan Davies, The Training Room

Jonathan has made the classic entrepreneurial ’journey’. At 29, he saw a gap in the market and confidently backed his business ambition with his own cash and lots of hard work. He created The Training Room, a leading UK career providing company with a growing £11 million turnover and received a £20m investment in 2013 by private equity house LDC to accelerate company growth.

Jonathan began the company with his partner in 2006 from the archetypal ’spare room in their home.’ In 2006, they had two full-time employees,in their first year they trained 200 people, now they train 10,000+ per year. Now, this careers provider has 28 city-based UK academies and an expanding full-time staff base exceeding 150.

Jonathan successfully exited his company in 2017 and is launching a brand new IT Training Academy.

The first academy will be based in Bournemouth and offers web developers, software developers and cyber security students the opportunity to gain qualification in their chosen field and launch their own business with ongoing support from Virgin StartUp & Barclays.
